A session with parents of class 1 was conducted on 21 December,2019 in the school auditorium by School Counsellor Dr.Gurleen Sawhney and Special Educator Mrs.Jyotsana Wadhwa. School Counsellor encouraged the parents to develop a bond with their children and also motivated them to share their feelings. She also encouraged to use technology in a positive way. Special Educator highlighted the problems faced by young ones in terms of reading and what different strategies could be used to overcome the problems related to it in grade one. She also discussed the benefits of regular reading for children.
JKPS takes regular initiatives to help the students know themselves better. One chooses the work by his /her interest. JKPS invited Directorate of Naval Education for interaction with students on 17th December 2019. Lt. Commander S D Shukla and the team created awareness amongst the students about the Indian Navy and its multifarious role and functions. The interaction included presentation, a short tele-film and question and answer session for the students . They also imparted the knowledge about the equipment they use, courses for different streams and much more. JKPS was honoured to have them and the students were enlightened by the session.
A workshop was held on July 6, 2019 by Dr. Shaifali Dadwal in the school auditorium. She conducted the workshop on “Strategy to manage challenging behaviour in classroom”. She gave us valuable and practical knowledge to deal with everyday problems and issues. She talked about handwriting issues, resource and environmental modification etc. She guided us on how to make realistic positive goal for the children in the classroom. She discussed about the various causes of poor attention and the ways in which we can resolve them. The workshop was a learning experience for one and all.
On July 6, 2019 a session was taken on “Good Touch and Bad Touch” by Ms. Gurleen. It is a very sensitive issue. With such an ease, she was able to create awareness amongst all of us with the help of PPT. It was an interactive session. Datas were shared that corrected our delusions. We also discussed about how we can stimulate children to keep them safe.
A workshop on stress management was conducted in the school auditorium on 3rd July 2019 (Wednesday) at 9:00 a.m by Ms. Anu Singh, a Senior Consultant with NIE Times of India and Consultant Psychologist with DD Bharti and Pragya channels on talk shows. The highlights of the workshop were the common causes of stress, their effects on health and simple practical ways to manage stress like time management, exercise, prioritising the to-do list and talking to family and friends to let off the stress steam. It was an interactive and informative workshop. Teachers were highly convinced by the practical ways suggested by her to uninstall stress and were encouraged to live and start afresh in a more grateful and positive manner.
A session for the parents of class Nursery was held in the school auditorium by School Counsellor and Special Educator on March 2, 2019. School Counsellor conveyed that “Genes and Parenting” plays an important role in shaping the personality of the little toddlers. Engaging children in different activities also add to positive development of the children. Special Educator discussed about the importance of Phonics, recognition of letters and numbers as these basic topics are important in the crucial years of development of children.
A parenting session for the parents of class KG was held in the school auditorium by School Counsellor and Special Educator on February 16, 2019. Counsellor briefed the parents to mentally prepare their children about the change in school schedule. She suggested the parents to encourage their young ones in self- regulatory activities as it will go a long way in building a positive trait in their wards. She also conveyed that proper assessments would be done and also they need to help children in packing their bags which would help them in maintaining the weight of the bag, as per the CBSE guidelines. Special Educator enlightened the parents about the importance of developing reading skills through story books, sign board reading, etc. She also encouraged the parents to practice sentence making with their wards at this early age for enhancing their comprehension skills. Parents were also conveyed to have a structured academic plan for the young ones in next class.
A two day Capacity Building Program on CAREER GUIDANCE was organised in school premises on 10and 11January 2019.The workshop was conducted by Dr Renu Malaviya (Associate Proff HOD Deptt of Education, Lady Irwin College New Delhi) and Mrs Mudita Yadav. (School Counsellor Ahlcon School) The workshop initiated with detailed explanation of the term career and job, wherein teachers were motivated to take their profession as career and engage the children so well that they learn on their own. Various activities were conducted which involved creative work, interaction etc. The workshop was informative and the information was delivered in a way that the participants could relate with.
A session for parents was conducted by the School Counsellor and Special Educator on 15Dec 2018 in the School Auditorium, School Counsellor conveyed that Helicopter Parenting, more usage of screen time can cause permanent damage in the brain development.Parenting tips were also given to handle their children at this level. Special Educator stressed as to how reading skills can improve the academics of the students.
“You cannot buy good health, you must earn it through healthy living.” Keeping this in mind, a workshop was conducted for the teachers on 24 th November 2018 in the school premises by Dr. P.K. Aggarwal on health related issues. Dr. P.K.Aggarwal, popularly known as Health Guru and Health Motivator, is a well renowned Orthopedic Surgeon practicing in Rohini, Delhi for past 18 years. He is a well-qualified (MBBA, MS, DNB, MNAMA) and a Gold Medalist too. The workshop was very interesting and useful. He explained the combination of various food items and the right time of eating them. He made us understand the importance of water and the correct way of drinking it. He focused on laughter as the best medicine to relieve stress in our day to day life. He also demonstrated the correct posture to be followed while sitting, standing and sleeping to avoid health related problems in bones. He discussed the importance of yoga and meditation in our day to day life for a better health. The workshop was followed by a question answer round in which teachers asked various questions related to health. Overall it was a very informative session for all the teachers.
Representatives from Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence were invited on15 Oct 2018 to JKPS premises to provide a glimpse of Naval life to students. Lt Cdr Sunil and two Naval officerss conveyed about the multifarious roles and functions in this career. Lady naval officer shared her experiences and opportunities in navy. They also showed a presentation which reflected the life on board. This was followed by Question and Answer session.
Our school organised a session for the girls of classes IX to XII on October10, 2018 to make them aware of the hygiene that one should keep in order to be healthy and keep away from diseases. It was conducted by the students of Lady Hardinge Medical College, one of them was also ex-student of JKPS 2016 batch. They were really interactive and made us aware of PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome) and how to detect and treat it. In the end, they also gave us tips regarding how to reduce stress, anxiety and perform well in life. It was indeed a very helpful and informative session.
A session for the parents of class 2 was held by School Counsellor and Special Educator on September 22, 2018 in the school auditorium. School Counsellor conveyed that exercising self control for the usage of phone and spending more quality time could play a major role in having a positive personality of their children. This would help in instilling and enhancing positive habits in their behaviour and would be beneficial in the long run. The Special Educator briefed on regular practice of handwriting at home with proper fonts. She also made it clear that emphasis should be laid on understanding the reading portion rather than mugging the chapters.
A session for the parents of class 3 was held by School Counsellor on September 1, 2018 in the school auditorium. The School Counsellor conveyed that ‘Social media’ and technology is the trickiest challenge for today’s parents and how its appropriate use could help in their children’s personality. She also conveyed about encouraging reading skills and self discipline so that the children build up good communication skills and personality.
Busy Hands are Happy Hands”, an Inter School event was held for the children with Special needs under Jaspalian Arcade in the school premises on 21 July, 2018. Around 18 schools participated in this non-competitive event. The topic of this event was “Pot Decoration”. Children painted and decorated beautiful pots using their own creative skills. Each participant was appreciated with a certificated and a badge in the event for their outstanding performance.
All TGT and PGT teachers of our school attended a workshop on Child Sexual Abuse on July2, 2018. It was conducted by our school counsellor, Mrs. Gurleen Sawhney.The workshop helped us to reflect on those issues that need to be handled sensitively in the classroom.Teachers as counsellors,parents and guides should appreciate and inculcate the moral values and etiquettes in the young children. It was an informative and enriching session that would help us to deal with many vital adolescent issues in the classroom.
A workshop for creating awareness on diabetes was conducted in the school auditorium on April 28, 2018. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Sanjay Rajpal. He is working as a Country Head in Swiss Multinational Ypsomed for India, Nepal and Bangladesh. He has also written a book on “Business Etiquettes”. The workshop was very informative for all the teachers. He explained that by just having a slight change in our lifestyle, we can prevent ourself from the circle of diabetes. He focused on the importance of various nutrients in the diet and correlate the same with their portion to be included in our daily meal plan. The workshop was followed by a health camp in which all the teachers enthusiastically participate in the routine checkup of blood sugar, BMI and blood pressure.
Autism Awareness Day is celebrated on April 2 every year. This year Ekamjeet Singh sensitized the students about autistic children and their special needs. The staff of JKPS was also dressed up in different shades of blue to show their awareness and sensitization towards special children.
Nursery orientation was held for the new parents on March 31, 2018 in the school auditorium. School Counselor and Special Educator addressed the parents with the help of LCD presentation. Counselor apprised the parents with tips helpful in upbringing their little ones in the world of technology. She also conveyed that excess of pampering is not right for overall development. Special Educator highlighted the importance of development of motor skills at this stage and shared few activities which could be beneficial for children of this age-group.
A session for primary teachers was taken by Mrs. Vijaya Dutt (HOD of step by Step School, Noida )on March 23, 2018 in school auditorium. She sensitized teachers on special children and their needs. The learning disability and its different types, symptoms and techniques to handle them in the class were discussed in detail with the help of LCD presentation.
Session was held for parents of class nursery by School Counselor and special educator on 17th March 2018 in the school Auditorium Counselor briefed parents to encourage their wards to be responsible ,hygienic and to be in love with school. Special educator briefed parents to give importance to recognition of letters upper and lower case, stress on Phonics developing their fine Motor skills through different activities and lastly importance to writing by checking their fonts
On 18 November,2017 Jaspal Kaur Public School had invited Mr. Mohan Tiwari, an alumni of IIM ,as a mentor and career counsellor for the school students. The counselling session took place in the school assembly hall from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. The students of senior classes along with their parents, attended the session. The session was constructive and motivating . It was conveyed that when we determinately think of achieving some purpose , we had already completed half of our journey towards it . He opened various career options of different interests. Experts from different careers were also invited by school counsellor Dr. Gurleen Sawhney in the auditorium . Ex-Jaspalians Ms.Shagun, Mr. Akshay, Mr. Dhruv , Ms. Sujatha, Ms. Vanshika from varied fields like Make-up , Computer Engineering , Lawyer, Food & Technology, Fashion, and Literature were invited to guide there juniors . We had Mr. Jatin from admizion campus, Ms. Kavita pahuja from pearl academy , Ms Deepika from Benetton university , too found us as special guests . The students could individually interact with these experts and clarify their doubts with their respective career options .Career Fair was a great success and helped students to add to their awareness and direction.
Session was held for the parents of class 3 by the School Counsellor and the Special Educator on 23 September, 2017 in School Auditorium. The Counsellor briefed them about the use of technology can affect children. She also conveyed that the movies like “Komal” and “Klay” on “ Good touch and bad touch” are shown to children in school from time to time and they can also do the same for awareness among their children. Special Educator threw light on the various obstacles children face during their transition period from class 3 to class 4. She also briefed parents as how they can help their wards to overcome and tackle these problems in a better and systematic way.
An Interschool Event, UDAAN was held in Srijan Public School, Model Town on 15 November,2017. Seven students of J.K.P.S with special skills participated in this event. These children made beautiful things like cards , pen stands using waste material and also participated in singing. Every participant was awarded with certificate for their excellent performance. Mrs. Jyotsna Wadhwa, special educator accompanied the J.K.P.S students for the inter-school event.
AN ORIENTATION SESSION for students and parents, on scope of streams and current trends. Psychometric Analysis, Aptitude Testing was organised on 16 September, 2017 for class X. Mrs Jyotsna Bhardwaj, renowned consulting psychologist and a career counsellor, addressed the parents and students on 16 September, 2017 from 8:15 a.mto 10:30 a.m in the school Auditorium. Aptitude testing for those who had registered was held on 26 September, 2017 by Mrs Jyotsna Bhardwaj
School Counsellers are an Important part of the school system. The school counseller help all students in the areas of academic achievement, Personal/Social Development and causes development, ensuring today's students became the productive, Well adopted adults of tomorrow. School Counsellers work collaboratively with parents and teachers to decide on what action needs to be taken to address the need based issues. JKPS has a trained counseller Dr. Gurleen Sawhney who works in a confidential settings and organizes need based programs for Students, Teacher, Parents.
Regular Sessions for students are conducted in the school on different topics like Motivation, Different Careers, Behaviour concerns, adolescences issues, good habits and many more. Orientation of Parents is taken up from time to time depending on the need eg. Nursery Orientation, Transition time for junior, good touch and bad touch, handling adolescents and dealing their Adolescent children. Workshops for teachers are also organized from time to time to motivate and update them on technologies and corrupts.
Special Education is the institution that is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of children with special needs. Our School has a trained special education who, with the help of teachers identifies students with special needs, senses their abilities and understand their strengths. At JKPS our special education services are designed to help children with special needs leave the information and skills that other children are learning in a regular curriculum. Different types of learning materials aids and workshops are used to help children to learn in a simple way. Parents are regularly counselled and given information to handle children in a positive manner.
