Jaspal Kaur Public School hosted the Spic Macay programme on 21 February 2019 to promote an awareness of the rich cultural tapestry among the young students. The renowned Kathak maestro, Pandit Deepak Maharaj, the son of illustrious Kathak exponent Pandit Birju Maharaj, enthralled the audience with his dynamic lecture-demonstration performance. He was accompanied by Shri Pranshu Chatur Lal on the tabla, Shri Mohammad Ayub Khan on the sarangi n Shri Waris Khan who rendered the vocal support to Pandit ji. The students thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated listening to the history and Kathakari of this great classical dance. Deepak Ji shared various anecdotes from his life, how he was trained by his great father by taking examples from nature and 'sur’, 'taal’ from everyday objects like the movement of trains on the track, telephonic conversation etc. He beautifully enacted the various moods and grace of village women, the dancing peacock, 'makkhan chor’ etc. The jugalbandi mesmerized the young audience. The whole programme was dedicated by Deepak Ji to commemorate the lives of our jawaans who were recently martyred. It was a wonderful opportunity and a great privilege for Young Jaspalians to watch and learn from this great maestro.
